Westwood Girls Remain Perfect, Boys Fall At Iron Mountain

The Westwood girls basketball team won at Calumet 59-35 while the Patriot boys fell at Iron Mountain.60-22 on Thursday.

The Patriot girls led 11-8 after one quarter and 30-20 at halftime. Calumet got within eight points late in the third quarter but could get no closer. The Patriots ended the frame with a pair of quick buckets and led by double digits the rest of the way.

Tessa Leece paced the Pats with 15 points, Madelyn Koski and Ellie Miller each had 12 and Karlie Patron added ten to lead four Patriots in double figures.

Westwood is now 8-0 and hosts Gladstone on Tuesday.

The Patriot boys jumped out to a 5-2 lead midway through the first quarter. That’s when Iron Mountain ripped off a 32-0 run as Westwood went over eleven minutes without points. Iron Mountain led 12-5 after one quarter, 37-8 at halftime and 50-16 after three.

Nathan Beckman led Westwood with eight points. Foster Wonders turned in a game-high 21 points while Marcus Johnson added 18 to lead the Mountaineers.

Westwood is now 6-2 and visit Gladstone on Tuesday.
