The Westwood girls basketball team shot a sizzling 53% from the field on Tuesday, cruising past Gladstone 61-40 in West PAC action.
Westwood set the tone early and led by double digits for the majority of the game. The Patriots led 21-11 after one quarter, 36-21 at halftime and 48-30 after three.
Tessa Leece turned in a game-high 23 points and knocked down three triples. Madelyn Koski added 15 points, six rebounds and six steals. The Patriots are now 9-0 and host Houghton on Friday.
The Gladstone boys earned their second straight victory, topping Westwood 62-35 in Gladstone.
Westwood led on separate occasions early on but Gladstone ripped off six straight points and would not trail the rest of the night. Westwood tied the game at 8-8 late in the first quarter but the Braves ended the frame on a 7-2 run.
Gladstone scored the first six points of the second quarter before Nathan Beckman converted a three-point play to cut the lead to eight. Gladstone led by as many as 16 points in the first half and the Pats could get no closer than ten late in the game.
Ty Alderton led Westwood with 14 points while Beckman added nine. The Patriots were 1/3 at the free throw line and failed to connect on a three-pointer. Westwood is now 6-3 and visits Ishpeming on Friday.
