Hot outside shooting helped Westwood bounce back on Tuesday as the Patriots took down rival Gwinn 51-41 in West PAC action. 33 of the Patriots’ 51 points came from behind the arc, as they knocked down a school-record 11 three-pointers.
Gwinn scored the first six points of the game and led 20-15 after one quarter. Both defenses picked up in the second frame but Gwinn carried a 29-23 advantage into halftime. Westwood battled back and took their first lead with 3:51 left in the third quarter but the Modeltowners retook the lead 34-33 heading into the fourth.
Gwinn split a pair of free throws to open the quarter before Westwood went on a 12-0 run, fueled by three consecutive trays by Tessa Leece. Madelyn Koski capped the run with her fifth triple of the game and Westwood would not trail the rest of the way.
Koski poured in 25 points while Leece added 17 to pace the Patriots. Koski finished with seven three-pointers, tying the Westwood single-game record. Westwood is now 12-1 and visits Ishpeming on Friday.
