Westwood never trailed during Monday night’s district quarterfinal against Negaunee, topping the Miners 49-37 at Westwood High School.
The Patriots scored the first seven points of the game and raced to an 18-9 lead after one quarter. Westwood went up by as many as 15 points in the second stanza but Negaunee closed the first half on a 7-2 run to get within 28-18 at the break.
The Pats led by double digits for the entire third quarter and carried a 39-28 advantage in the fourth. Negaunee trimmed the deficit to nine points on multiple occasions but could get no closer.
Natalie Prophet led the Patriots with 17 points and seven rebounds. Karlie Patron added twelve points and collected eight boards while Tessa Leece scored in double figures with ten. Westwood is now 20-1 and hosts Bark River-Harris (16-3) in a district semifinal on Wednesday. Negaunee closes at 16-5 and graduates five seniors. Elsewhere in the district, Ishpeming downed Manistique 56-44 and will travel to Gwinn for a district semifinal on Wednesday.
