The Westwood girls basketball team opened the new season in dominant fashion, cruising past Kingsford 63-27 on Friday.
The Pats raced out to a 5-0 lead but the Flivvers scored eight of the game’s next eleven points to tie things up. However a fast break layup followed by a pair of Madelyn Koski three-pointers ignited a 38-5 run that stretched well into the third quarter.
Koski turned in a game-high 23 points while Natalie Prophet added 13 to lead the Patriots. Westwood (1-0) shot 52% from behind the arc for the game and forced twelve steals defensively. The Patriots return to action Monday when they visit Menominee. The game will be broadcast on ESPN UP.
