Westwood Hoops Teams Roll, Koski Reaches Another Milestone

Madelyn Koski cemented her spot in Westwood basketball history on Monday as the Patriot girls downed rival Ishpeming 64-33 in Mid Peninsula Conference action.

Westwood led 9-7 midway through the opening quarter before a 15-2 run put the Patriots ahead by double digits for the rest of the night. Westwood led 22-7 after one quarter, 37-19 at halftime and 50-25 after three.

Koski became the fourth player in school history to reach the 1,000 career point mark when she converted a layup with 2:38 left in the third quarter. Natalie Prophet led a balanced offensive scoring attack with 14 points while Tessa Leece added twelve. All nine Patriot players scored in the game. Westwood improves to 2-0 and visits Menominee on Wednesday.

The Patriot boys basketball team flexed it’s offensive muscles, racing past Hancock 91-44 on Monday.

Westwood set the tone early, jumping out to a 26-13 lead after one quarter before stretching their advantage to 52-26 at halftime. Ty Alderton turned in a game-high 29 points while Zach Carlson added 16, Mason Mariuzza 15 and Taylor Dellangelo 14 to lead the Patriots.

Westwood is now 2-0 and visits Kingsford on Friday.
