Patriot Girls Fall At Menominee

The Westwood Patriot girls basketball team suffered their first loss of the season Wednesday night, falling to Menominee 52-47 in a non-conference matchup.

Westwood scored the first four points of the game but the Maroons took the lead for good with an 11-0 run. Menominee took their biggest lead at 25-16 midway through the second quarter before the Patriots ripped off eight consecutive points to get within one. However the Maroons netted the final bucket of the half and led 27-24 at the break.

Westwood rallied to tie the game at 33 midway through the third quarter but Menominee ended the frame on an 8-2 run. The Patriots got within three points on multiple occasions in the fourth quarter but could get no closer.

Tessa Leece turned in a team-high 15 points while Natalie Prophet added 12 and Madelyn Koski finished with 11 to lead three Patriots in double figures. Menominee’s Emma Anderson drained seven three-pointers and finished with a game-high 28 points. Westwood is now 2-1 and hosts Manistique on Thursday.
