Strong Third Quarter Propels Westwood Past Hancock

A 17-5 third quarter run helped the Westwood girls basketball team open the second half of the season with a 59-34 victory over Hancock on Friday.

Westwood scored the first five points of the game and never trailed. The Patriots held multiple ten-point leads in the second quarter but a Bulldog three-pointer with 45 seconds left in the half brought Hancock within 24-18 at the break.

The Patriots opened the second half on an 11-1 run and led by double digits the rest of the night, outscoring the Bulldogs 27-9 in the third frame.

Natalie Prophet led a balanced scoring attack with 15 points, Karlie Patron added 12 and Madelyn Koski ten. Westwood forced nine steals and committed just three turnovers. The Patriots improve to 4-1 and host Gladstone on Monday.
