The Westwood girls basketball team earned their fifth consecutive win Tuesday night, topping Gladstone 49-29 in Mid Peninsula action.
Westwood scored the first five points of the game and built a 12-2 lead early in the opening quarter. Gladstone scored the next five points to get within 12-7 but the Patriots answered with an 8-2 run to build their largest lead of the first half.
The Braves answered with seven consecutive points to get within four in the final minute of the half but Madelyn Koski tipped in a missed shot right before the buzzer to put Westwood ahead 22-16 at the break. The Patriots rebuilt an 11-point lead after three quarters and led by double digits the rest of the way.
Koski led the way with a game-high 19 points, Tessa Leece added 12 and Natalie Prophet nine as the Patriots move to 7-1 on the year.
The Patriot boys topped Gladstone 69-51 fueled by a career night from sophomore guard Zach Carlson.
Carlson led all scorers with 30 points as Westwood blew open a one-point game at halftime by outscoring the Braves 18-7 in the third quarter, never giving up the lead thereafter.
Ty Alderton added 19 points and ten rebounds while Taylor Dellangelo finished with ten points to lead three Patriots in double figures. Westwood is now 5-2 and hosts Ishpeming on Friday.
