Patriot Girls Down Negaunee

The Westwood girls basketball team never trailed en route to their eighth consecutive victory, taking down rival Negaunee 45-35 Friday night.

The Patriots jumped out to an 8-2 lead but Negaunee scored six consecutive points to tie things up. Westwood answered with a 7-2 run before the Miners cut the deficit to two with a three-pointer. However, the Patriots would score ten of the next thirteen points to take a 25-16 halftime lead.

Negaunee rallied and cut the deficit to 33-28 entering the fourth quarter but could get no closer than within five down the stretch. Leading 39-34 with two minutes remaining, Jillian Koski collected an offensive rebound and passed to Natalie Prophet who buried a right-wing three-pointer to put the game out of reach.

Prophet and Tessa Leece each finished with 16 points and Madelyn Koski added 11 to pace Westwood. The Patriots are now 10-1 and visit Gwinn on Tuesday.
