The Westwood girls basketball team extended their winning streak to ten consecutive games as they knocked off Houghton 67-52 in West PAC action Monday night.
The two squads went toe-to-toe early but Houghton led 19-17 after one quarter, thanks to a half-court heave that beat the buzzer.
Westwood opened the second frame on a 7-0 run and would keep the lead for the rest of the night. The Patriots claimed a nine point advantage late in the first half but the Gremlins managed to get within 37-30 at the break.
Houghton scored five of the game’s next seven points to cut the deficit to four but that’s as close as they’d get for the rest of the evening. Westwood went on a 20-4 run and led 59-41 after three quarters. Houghton got within 12 in the final minute of regulation but could get no closer.
Tessa Leece poured in a game-high 25 points while Madelyn Koski added 20 to lead Westwood. The Patriots are now 12-1 and visit Marquette on Thursday.
