Calumet led wire-to-wire Thursday night, topping Westwood 67-57 in West PAC boys basketball.
Calumet led 4-2 before scoring the game’s next nine points en route to a 17-6 lead after a quarter. The Copper Kings led by as many as 17 in the first half before Westwood got within 29-16 at the break.
The Patriots opened the third quarter with a 9-2 run to get within 31-25 but Calumet answered with a 7-2 run to retake a double-digit lead. The Patriots trailed 43-36 after three but managed to get within 53-48 with under four minutes to play. However they’d get no closer as Calumet responded with a 9-0 run and put the game away at the free throw line in the final minutes.
Zach Carlson led all scorers with 24 points while Taylor Dellangelo added 14 to highlight the Patriot offense. Westwood is now 10-7 and visits Gladstone on Monday.
