The Westwood boys closed 2018 with their fifth straight win, topping Gwinn 44-39 on Thursday.
Westwood led 10-8 after a back-and-forth opening quarter. The Patriots led by as many as five points on multiple occasions before halftime but Gwinn’s James Harnick knocked down four second quarter three-pointers to put the Modeltowners up 24-22 at the break.
Westwood bookended the third quarter with a pair of 4-0 runs and led 32-28 heading into the fourth frame. Gwinn took advantage of Patriot free throw struggles and got within a single point twice but Taylor Dellangelo and Nathan Beckman each connected on a pair of foul shots in the final minute to seal the victory.
Blake Hewitt scored 12 points while Beckman added 10 to lead Westwood. Harnick led all scorers with 15 points. Westwood is now 6-1 while Gwinn drops to 3-3 on the season. The Patriots return to action January 3rd at Iron Mountain.
