Patriot Boys Outlasted By Marquette

Westwood’s fourth quarter rally came up just short Tuesday night in Marquette, falling to the Redmen 47-39 in non-conference action.

Marquette scored the game’s first basket before Westwood ripped off a 9-0 run. The Redmen responded by scoring the next ten points but Nathan Beckman knocked down a three-pointer with 43 seconds left in the opening quarter to tie the game at 12-all after one.

Marquette threatened to pull away before halftime, leading 22-14 with under two minutes left before Blake Hewitt knocked down back-to-back treys to bring the Patriots within two at the break.

However, Westwood shooting went cold and the team’s first second half field goal came with eight seconds left in the third quarter. Trailing 38-29 entering the fourth frame, Westwood rallied to get within four points with 1:45 to go but the Redmen knocked down four key free throws late to pull away.

Marquette’s Marius Grazulis finished with a game-high 13 points. Beckman and Taylor Dellangelo each scored ten to lead Westwood. The Patriots drop to 8-4 and visit Manistique on Friday. Marquette improves to 10-3 and visits Menominee on Friday.
