Top-Ranked IM Downs Westwood

Iron Mountain, the top-ranked boys basketball team in the UP, led wire-to-wire on Monday as they topped Westwood 67-40 in West PAC action.

Iron Mountain scored the first nine points of the game before Ty Alderton converted an old-fashioned three-point play with 3:39 left in the opening quarter. Westwood got within four points early in the second frame but Iron Mountain answered with a 15-6 run. Westwood got within single digits late in the first half but the Mountaineers led 34-23 at the break.

The Mountaineers opened the second half with a 9-2 run, forcing a Patriot timeout with 5:17 to play in the third quarter. Iron Mountain led 50-36 after three and held multiple 25-point fourth quarter advantages.

Blake Hewitt led Westwood with 16 points and turned in a season-high seven assists. The Patriots drop to 10-6 while Iron Mountain improves to 16-0 overall. Westwood returns to action Tuesday night at Gwinn.
