Westwood never trailed Thursday night, routing Gwinn 49-26 to claim a pair of conference championships. With the win, the Patriots have clinched the Mid Peninsula Conference title for the first time since 2013 and the West Peninsula Athletic Conference title for the first time ever.
Westwood raced out to a 10-0 lead, forcing a Gwinn timeout. The Modeltowners got within six points in the final minute of the second quarter but Tessa Leece knocked down her third three-pointer of the first half to put Westwood up 24-15 at halftime.
Early in the third quarter, Gwinn trimmed Westwood’s lead to six points but the Patriots responded with an 11-0 run and would lead by double digits for the rest of the night.
Leece poured in a game-high 23 points while Madelyn Koski added 15 to lead the Patriots. Westwood improves to 18-1 and closes the regular season next Thursday at Kingsford.
