The Westwood Patriots are moving on after topping Manistique 46-29 in their District 66 first round matchup.
Manistique led 11-9 after one quarter and neither team recorded field goal in the second stanza until Ty Alderton’s layup at the 4:00 mark. Westwood briefly took a one-point lead before halftime but the Emeralds led 17-15 at the break.
After being held to 15 first half points, the Patriots erupted for 16 in the third quarter. Westwood took the lead for good midway through the frame and led 31-23 entering the fourth. The Patriot lead never dipped below double digits for the final six minutes of the game as the team outscored the Emeralds 31-12 after halftime.
Nathan Beckman led the Pats with 15 points. Taylor Dellangelo added ten and seven of Blake Hewitt’s nine points came in the fourth quarter to help Westwood pull away. The Patriots are now 12-9 and visit Negaunee in the district semifinals on Wednesday. Negaunee (13-7) won both regular season meetings, 44-32 on February 6th and 49-46 last Wednesday.
