A late first half surge and a dominant fourth quarter helped lead the Westwood boys basketball team to a 54-35 victory over Gwinn on Thursday.
The two teams traded baskets early on and Westwood led 13-12 after a quarter. Tied at 15 midway through the second frame, the Patriots ripped off a 14-3 run to end the half and led 29-18 at the break.
Westwood went up by as many as 12 in the third quarter but the Modeltowners managed to get within 38-30 after three. However the fourth quarter belonged to the Patriots, outscoring Gwinn 16-5 and finishing the game 18/22 at the free throw line.
Zach Carlson led the Patriots with 17 points while nine of Ty Alderton’s 11 came after halftime. Westwood is now 10-6 and hosts Calumet on Thursday.
