The Westwood Patriots girls basketball team clinched both the West PAC and Mid Peninsula Conference championships for a second consecutive year with a 38-27 victory over Gwinn on Thursday.
The Modeltowners raced out to a 9-4 lead before Westwood ripped off nine consecutive points, forcing a timeout. Gwinn tallied the final three points of the first half to get within 13-12 at the break. But the Patriot offense opened the game up after halftime, erupting on a 14-3 third quarter run and led by double digits the rest of the night.
Nine of Madelyn Koski’s team-best 11 points came in that crucial third quarter while Tessa Leece finished the night with eight points to lead Westwood offensively. The Patriots close the regular season at 18-2 and open the district playoffs Monday at Ishpeming.
